Commemoration of the St. Stephen I
Gregem tuum, Pastor aeterne, placatus intende: et per beatum Stephen Martyrem tuum atrque Summum Pontifecem, perpetua protectone custodi, quem totius Ecclesiae praetitisti esse pastorem. Per Dominum nostrum. II Tim 2:1-7
Carissimi: Confortare in gratia, quae est in Christo Jesu; et quae audisti a me per multos testes, haec commenda fidelibus hominibus, qui idonei erunt et alios docere. Labora sicut bonus mile Christi Jesu. Dearly beloved, beloved, be strong in the grace which is in Christ Jesus: And the things which thou hast heard of me by many witnesses, the same commend to faithful men, who shall be fit to teach others also. Labour as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No man, being a soldier to God, entangleth himself with secular businesses; that he may please him to whom he hath engaged himself. 5 For he also that striveth for the mastery, is not crowned, except he strive lawfully. The husbandman, that laboureth, must first partake of the fruits. Understand what I say: for the Lord will give thee in all things understanding.
Ps. 91:13,14,3
Memor fui judiciorum tuorum a saeculo, Domine, et consolatus sum: defectio tenuit me pro peccatoribus derelinquentibus legem tuam. Justitiam tuam non abscondi in corde meo: veritatemtuam, et salutae tuum dixi   I remembered, O Lord, Thy judgments of old, and I was comforted; a fainting hath taken hold of me because of hte wicked that forsake Thy law. I have not hid Thy justice within my heart: I have declared Thy truth and Thy salvation.
Jas. 1:12
Alleluia, alleluia. Alleluia   Alleluia, alleluia. He was directed by God unto the repentance of the nation, and he took away the abomination of wickedness: and he directed his heart towards the Lord, and in the days of sinners he strengthened godliness. Alleluia.
Lk. 10:1-9
At that time, Jesus appointed also other seventy-two: and he sent them two and two before his face into every city and place whither he himself was to come. And he said to them: The harvest indeed is great, but the labourers are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he send labourers into his harvest. Go: Behold I send you as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes; and salute no man by the way. Into whatsoever house you enter, first say: Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you. And in the same house, remain, eating and drinking such things as they have: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Remove not from house to house. And into what city soever you enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you. And heal the sick that are therein, and say to them: The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
Prov. 3:9,27
Honor the Lord with substance, and give Him of the first of al they fruits. Do not withhold him from doign good who is able: if thou art able do good thy self also.
Let our hearts burn with the heavenly fire of this Sacrifice, for an oder of sweetness, O Lord Jesus Christ: Who didst enable blessed Aphonsus Mary to celebrate these mysteries, and throug them to offer himself as a holy victim to Thee: Who livest and reignest.
Commemoration of the St. Stephen I
Oblatis muneribus, quaesumus, Domine Ecclesiam tuam benignus illumina: ut, et gregis tui proficiat ubique successus, et grati fiant nomini tuo, te gubernante, pastores. Per Dominum nostrum. We beg Thee, O Lord through the gifts which we have offered, in Thy kindness enlighten Thy Church: so that everywhere Thy flock may prosper and her Shepherds by Thy guidance be pleasing to Thy name. Through our Lord.
Preface of the Apostles
It it truly meet and just, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times, and in all places, give thanks unto Thee, O holy Lord, Father almighty, everlasting God; Who, together with Thine only-begotten Son, and the Holy Ghost, art one God, one Lord: not in the oneness of a single Person, but in the Trinity of one substance. For what we believe by Thy revelation of Thy glory, the same do we believe of Thy Son, the same of the Holy Ghost, without difference or separation. So that in confessing the true and everlasting Godhead, distinction in persons, unity in essence, and equality in majesty may be adored. Which the Angels and Archangels, the Cherubim also and Seraphim do praise: who cease not daily to cry out, with one voice saying:
Ecclus. 50:1,9
Sacerdos magnus, qui in vita sua suffulsit domum, et in diebus suis corroboravit templum, quassi ignis effulgens, et thus ardens in igne. A great priest, who in his life propped up the house, and in his days fortified the temple; as a bright fire, and frank-incense brining in the fire.
O God, Who didst make blessed Alphonsus Mary, Thy Confessor and Bishop, a faithful minister and preacher of the divine mystery: grant by his merits and prayers that Thy faithful people may frequently partake of it, and by partaking of it render unceasing praise to Thee. Through our Lord.
Commemoration of the St. Stephen I
Refectione sancta enutritam guberna, quaesumus, Domine, tuam placatus Ecclesiam; ut potenti moderatione directa, et incrementa liberatis accipiat et in relgionis integrite persistat. Per Dominum nostrum. Appeased by this Sacrifice, O Lord, in which Thou hast nourished Thy Church on heavenly food, do Thou so guide her that she may be steered with a firm hand and, while enjoying more liberty, may persist in wholeness of faith. Though our Lord.
